Based in the Bath area of South West England, The Elmhurst Foundation projects create a range of high-quality apprenticeships for students living locally.
The Elmhurst Foundation became the guardians of Combe Grove in March 2017 as part of a five-year plan which will see The Elmhurst Foundation create a range of high quality, enhanced apprenticeships for local people. Elmhurst’s apprenticeships are offered across each department of the business, including the business disciplines of marketing, finance, personnel and technology, the service disciplines of cooking, therapy treatments, and personal training, and the estate and buildings disciplines of land, trees and the maintenance of our listing buildings. Our apprentices have the opportunity to explore different career paths, to learn about wellbeing, and to provide public benefit to the local community through our charitable work.
Each Apprenticeship includes an element of community service, organised by us, relating to their chosen discipline. For example, this might be our building apprentices volunteering in the community to help fix fences and do jobs around the house for the elderly. We have started to form partnerships with local charities and privately-owned businesses who are employing apprentices, who are thoughtful of their contribution to the community and impact on our environment, to help us develop this purpose.
Combe Grove will continue to operate as a hotel, with a firm focus on holistic health and wellbeing, in line with the already strong fitness offering available at Combe Grove. The longer-term vision is to evolve Combe Grove into a unique health retreat for modern living, making the most of the 76-acre estate’s tranquil woodland setting and outstanding views over the Limpley Stoke Valley. By supporting the Elmhurst Foundation, guests, neighbours, friends and volunteers will provide the infrastructure and so in turn, the financial means to ensure that the provision of Elmhurst Foundation apprenticeships is perpetual.
